To img, backup or just clone even if its the same os your running at the time.Upgrade ssd's quite easily and quickly without a boot disk Works great and you don't need an iso boot disk if you don't want to. I just use in windows Macrium Reflect Free or u could use their bootable disk backup. I also tried EASUS ToDo Backup (free version), and it's too unreliable - I could seldom get incremental backup to work twice in a row, and it stores vital backup information in the system registry and can't regenerate it from the backup file alone (bad design!). Earlier I tried Macrium Reflect as a replacement for Acronis, but the UI can be a bit cryptic, and the free version doesn't do incremental backups. It has a few rough edges, but I'll see if it does the job.
Also the switch to more restrictive per-computer licencing hurt the value.īut right now I'm trying AOMEI Backerupper Pro, given away free a few days ago on Giveawayoftheday. Acronis used to be tops for speed and reliability, but it seems to have gone downhill in reputation over the last few years.
I have a full version of True Image 2014 that came with my SSD, but it pre-dated Windows 10 and is considered not reliable for Win10 system backups (although it can in theory image an entire Win10 drive). This iso image does work - I tried copying it to a bootable USB stick with Rufus, and it runs successfully, appears to be Linux-based like previous versions. Maybe one of the free versions might be sufficient to mount backup images. The functionality I actually use with Acronis that I wouldn't get from a boot disk (or that wouldn't be as useful with a boot disk) is being able to mount drive images and pull individual files from them. I'm still using my 2014 or 2015 version of True Image that I got free with a HD.
